SUPPORT INDIGENOUS-LED STEWARDSHIP OF THE TRANSBOUNDARY TAKU, STIKINE, AND UNUK WATERSHEDS
Help Protect Southeast Alaska's Tribal Lands, Wild Salmon Rivers, and Communities from Upstream Mining Impacts
Southeast Alaska is home to one of the most unique, biodiverse, and culturally significant regions on Earth. The annual return of wild Pacific salmon in its transboundary rivers and tributaries nourishes the ancient cedar and hemlock of the Tongass, the largest intact temperate rainforest in the world. This is the Haa Aani of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian, who have stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial. Today, this complex ecosystem is under severe threat as rapid mining development continues to expand in the vulnerable headwaters of the transboundary Taku, Stikine, and Unuk Rivers. Your support is urgently needed to help protect these watersheds.
“Our ancestors left us these living rivers and it is our responsibility to ensure they remain for the next generations. We are not just fighting for us.We’re fighting for those who come after us."
— Esther Reese, SEITC President

Since 2014, SEITC has worked tirelessly to uphold sovereign rights to protect our tribal lands and waterways from rapidly expanding mining development occurring in the Canadian headwaters of the Taku, Stikine and Unuk Rivers.
